Color Palette - Check!

Here it is--our color palette!

And I love it.

The main reason I had trouble putting together a color story was the darned uniforms!  But after struggling to find colors I liked that didn't clash with the uniforms, I realized something: the uniforms don't have to match anything!  And a friend pointed out that they don't even match themselves sometimes; all the medals, ribbons, and badges are designed to stand out from one another.

The color palette should have been set, right?  But of course, it wasn't because I also tried to avoid black--the black and blue combo didn't feel "Summer-y" enough for our July wedding.

Welp.  I love black, always have and I always will.  And white, I love white. And it's hard to use text as inspiration without it.  Gold  wiggled into the palette as an accent color in our flower containers, and hopefully in our invites.  And I've been smitten with various shades of pink as a substitute for red, another one of my favorite colors.

I still can't let go of the sea glass color, from my original palette, so I'm going to find a way to work it in.  And I left the uniform colors up there so I can see that they still look good against the color palette, even if they don't exactly "match."

So there you have it.  It's bold.  It's sophisticated.  And it's still appropriate for a Summer affair.

What do you think?  Military brides--is your SO wearing a uniform?  Did the colors throw you off a bit?  Or did they work for you?

Dear Home Depot,

Thanks for the paint chips.

...thanks a whole lot!

<3,

M

The sad part is that there were many more paint chips once upon a time.  I took a trip to Home Depot after I realized that I had way too many ideas swirling around in my head.  The key, for me, is to think visually, and then get organized to start narrowing my thoughts down to a cohesive look.  And since I didn't have a Pantone chip set laying around, the paint section at my local Home Depot had to do.

And you want to know a little secret?  I went nuts in there, grabbing paint chips left and right.  And I went back a couple times.  I collected these colorful paint chips like a little kid might collect toy cars.  I organized them again and again: take out the red, add a blue, take out the blue, add orange. No, no orange...

And I think I finally have something!

Did you go to unusual lengths to figure out your color palette?

Color Conundrum

After seven months of planning the wedding full-force, it was time to start tackling the colors I planned to use. Sure, we weren't set with a venue but I couldn't let that stop everything! The color palette was hanging over me, and I felt like I needed to get something decided but it was tough!

When I first envisioned the wedding I saw something romantic, elegant, and simple.  Here's my first inspiration board:

Then I added a pop of red to the mix, by way of fresh cherries.

Then I started thinking about a little "gilded" romance.

So I should have been good to go with our color palette. And I thought I was.

Colors shouldn't have been an issue, except that I never bothered to take the guys into account.  Call me neurotic, but I was bothered by the way their blues fit into my color palette:

I liked it...it was playful, fresh, and cute.  It was pretty darn perfect for a Summer celebration, especially a celebration held over Independence Day weekend.  But it's not really what I was going for at all.  To me, the blue and gold colors didn't mesh well with my softer palette that originally intended to use.  I knew that there had to be a color combo that would work, I just had to find it.

So back to the drawing board I went!

Did you have trouble settling on a color palette?  Was there anything about your wedding in particular, that made you think twice?
